Afghanistan, spring of the 1985th.
The beginning of the 70s. Major Cherkasov and his team are investigating a new case. This time we are talking about robberies. And this is the sphere of management for combating theft of socialist property (UBKhSS). During the robberies, the bandits mercilessly kill witnesses. The robberies are well organized and well thought out. And someone very knowledgeable prepares them. The leadership decides to unite the efforts of two departments of the Moscow militia against the "outlaws": the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the UBKHS. Together they are preparing an operation to arrest the gang.
Based on A. Galych's play "Matrosskaya Tishina", "Papa" tells a story of a Jewish father who dreamed of seeing his son perform on a stage in front of huge audiences, he dreamed of seeing him as the greatest violinist of his time. To achieve the goal he taught his son Dodik how to play the violin from the yearly age. When Dodik grew up he left the small town he and his father lived in to study in the Moscow Conservatory leaving his past behind. But one day he has to choose either to loose his father or everything he has achieved.

Nadya was born with a pathology. She has a large red-burgundy hemangioma on her small face. Nadya grandmother tries to treat her illness with all religious methods she knows, while Nadya mother constantly dreams of a surgical operation in Moscow. Nadya just wants to be herself. Her only wish is to sing in the choir. After getting into another mess, she ends up in a Moscow hospital, where meets people like her. But even after the physical problem has been resolved nothing changes in her family life.
