Inspired by American TV movies like "Hitchcock Theater" and "The Twilight Zone," the show features multiple works with Tamori as the storyteller and actors as the main characters. While horror and supernatural themes are predominant, a variety of genres like comedy and drama are also produced. Most episodes, however, have a bad ending.

SMAP×SMAP was an ongoing weekly Japanese variety show on Kansai TV and Fuji TV starring the members of SMAP. The show began on April 15, 1996 and it aired from 22:00 to 22:54 every Monday. The show's usual ratings were higher than 20%, which is considered high since most variety shows range from 10-20%. Each episode begins a variety of skits, comedic performances, and/or games.  These are followed by Bistro SMAP, in which the SMAP members compete against each other to impress celebrity judges with their gourmet cooking.  Last is a musical performance by SMAP which may include celebrity guests, as well.

Ashitaka, a prince of the disappearing Emishi people, is cursed by a demonized boar god and must journey to the west to find a cure. Along the way, he encounters San, a young human woman fighting to protect the forest, and Lady Eboshi, who is trying to destroy it. Ashitaka must find a way to bring balance to this conflict.

There, she meets Kurusu Arashi, who works as a career adviser at the temp agency. He walks with a cane due to discomfort from his left foot, but he has a great reputation as a career adviser and his nickname is The Devil of Changing Jobs. He often makes biting remarks to people worried about changing jobs. Working with Kurusu Arashi and dealing with people who are looking to change jobs, Hitsujitani Chiharu also grows as a person.

29-year-old Natsuki bumps into 25-year-old Sôichirô while on vacation in Hokkaido. Back in Tokyo, Natsuki discovers Sôichirô is her friend Haruko's younger brother, and they all end up living together along with Fuyumi, a third friend. Natsuki and Sôichirô form a strong bond, but become involved with other people all the while wondering who they should be with.

Haru Satonaka is the captain of an ice-hockey team, a star athlete who stakes everything on hockey but can only consider love as a game.
