Jeroom Verten

This series by Jos Gevers and Jeroom Verten is set in 1958 and revolves around the friendship between the wealthy insurance broker Sander Slisse and the simple Cesar. Other characters are Slisse's wife Melanie, his sons Rik and Jan, his daughter Tinneke and the eternal factor who always comes begging for a drop of gin. Joanna Geldof also contributed to this series. The sitcom was interpreted in Antwerp. The series was also adapted into a play, in which other actors took on the roles.

The film follows the occasionally slapstick misadventures of Sergeant Sestig, a fire brigade sergeant and widower, with his attractive daughter Martje by his side. At one point, three women attempt to woo him as a husband, but after a whirlwind of panic-filled complications, Sestig decides, with quiet resolve, to remain a dedicated firefighter—and a widower..

Five rather frivolous musicians seize the opportunity to perform on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Alas: they are under contract to engage a female singer - and they fear to fall in love with her, which would endanger their friendship.

Steven Martens wants to establish himself as the village doctor. His cousin Boone, a cunning farmer, manages to persuade Steven to act as a "miracle doctor." This earns him an extensive clientele. Steven refuses to marry Marietje, the mayor's daughter. This prompts the angry village potentate to launch an investigation into Steven's qualifications. The young doctor is, of course, cleared of any wrongdoing, but the villagers feel betrayed and stop visiting him.

Each year Thomas goes an a pilgrimage but he has more difficulty to complete it, but then he is offered a footbath that appears to contain a miracle drug. Wouldn't this make a huge seller during Expo 58 in Brussels... .
