Helena is an independendent woman with strong emotions. More than a dedicated mother, she is also a friend to her daughter. Her daughter is experiencing difficulties in her marriage with Marcelo because of his renewed interest in a formoe girlfriend. Marcelo‘s mother deslikes Helena and would like nothing better to see her son‘s marriage destroyed. Helena starts her life over again when she falls in love at first sight with Atilio, whom she marries. Although of poor health, her daughter wants to have a baby, believing that by fulfiling her husband‘s dream, she can save her marriage. As fate would have it, mother and daughter fall pregnant at the same time, each giving birth to a boy.

Two couples have their destinies intertwined after their happiness is unexpectedly interrupted. This is the starting point of the telenovela, which shares the same name as the São Paulo neighborhood where the story takes place. Solano Xavier is a man of humble origins who never had the chance to obtain a formal education. Unemployed for months, he celebrates with his wife Eugênia the fact that he has landed a temporary job as a truck driver. She reciprocates the good news by telling him she is pregnant. Solano, however, falls victim to a trap: unknowingly, he is transporting contraband goods on one of his trips. Detained by the police, he is arrested, tried, and sentenced to 17 years in prison. Throughout the telenovela, Solano discovers that Arthur is the main person responsible for the scheme that led to his imprisonment.

Set in the fictional city of Maramores, the plot centers on the character of Lívia, whose destiny begins to be shaped in the 12th century when the vampire Boris falls madly in love with her and decides to win her over at any cost, regardless of time or place. In medieval times, Lívia is Princess Cecília, Beto is Count Rogério, and Boris is Duke Boris. The present-day story begins with the introduction of Lívia's story, her husband Beto, and their children, Zeca, Tetê, and Juninho. The family's happiness will be destroyed, just as in Lívia and Beto's past lives (Princess Cecília and Count Rogério), by the reappearance of the vampire Boris. The main plot revolves around a hidden treasure. The story begins when a gang steals ten million dollars worth of diamonds in Uruguay. To escape the police, one of the thieves, Rodolfo Torres de Almeida, flees to Argentina. His partner, Ivo Simeone, travels to São Paulo with the jewels. Ivo decides to hide the precious stones and, to ensure he doesn't forget the hiding place, has a map tattooed above the buttocks of a girl, the daughter of his neighbor. The thief takes care to photograph the girl so he can identify her in the future. Ivo is arrested and, eight years later, when he gets out of jail, he is run over and killed. Before dying, however, he manages to tell his son Rodrigo the secret about the treasure map. The young man follows the clues given by his father and discovers that the young woman with the tattooed map is Elisa, a novice nun cloistered in a convent, about to take perpetual vows.

The plot revolves around the romantic conflict involving four young people who have known each other since childhood. Antônio Mourão, an orphan raised by Father Ovídio, has two dreams in life: to graduate in Medicine – he has just passed the entrance exam – and to marry Rebeca, one of the daughters of his godfather, the Protestant pastor Bilac. Antônio and Rebeca end up separated thanks to the interference of Lívia, the youngest daughter of Pastor Bilac. Sensual and deceitful, she dreams of abandoning her life in São Tomás de Trás, working as a lacemaker and attending her father's church services, to live in the big city. She sees in Antônio a chance to fulfill her desire and, even knowing about the romance between the young man and her sister, she orchestrates a situation to seduce him and manages to get pregnant by him. The two are then forced to marry and move to the capital.
