Biography
Jo Serfaty (1983) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She directed four short films, the most relevant are “Confetti” (2013) selected at Hot Springs IDFF, Edinburgh FF, Havana and FIDOCS among others, and “The Lighthouse Island” (2016) selected at Olhar de Cinema and Guanajuato IFF. Sun Inside (2019) was her first feature. The film received a Special Mention at Doclisboa and also the Young Critics Special Mention at Mar del Plata International Film Festival.

Is the end of the school year, the heat comes, and with it regular power cuts in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. Karol, Junior, Ronaldo and Caio have a harsh summer ahead of them. In a country where living conditions are increasingly precarious, these four young people will faced with the uncertainties of adulthood, invent new ways, perhaps unthinkable, to continue growing and dreaming.

Confetti moves along with bodies through time suspended in the colors and sounds of carnival. The film follows the path of confetti from the factory to the street floors of Rio de Janeiro on Ash Wednsday.

"The lighthouse island" recounts the story and legends of a mysterious and inhospitable island, also known as Rasa Island, not far from the city of Rio de Janeiro. Somewhere between historical rescue and invention, a silent family ventures across the sea in a small boat towards the island.

Vicente attends his mother's birthday dinner after a long time away. He reunites with Renato, with whom he is no longer close, but they attempt to connect amidst the chaos and noise of the dinner.
