A television play based on the play by Pavel Kohout (translated by Mikhail Rudnitsky). Based on a production by the Moscow Yermolova Theatre. The owner of a house kept a man hiding from the Nazis in his basement for 40 years, ever since the war. He simply cut his former friend and rival off from his life, continuing to play out a war that never ends.
Sashko, a soldier of a Ukrainian volunteer battalion, survives after a firing under Ilovajsk and tries to get to his fellowmen. Along the way, he meets the most unexpected companions and enemies.
