Lin Chi-Fan

Told in reverse chronological order, the story starts in the present (June 7, 1994), when the stock market rebounded after the market became volatile and crashed for the weekend. After the stock market stopped trading for the weekend, the Ting's make the wrong bet and their entire fortune is wiped out, compounded by ending up in billions of dollars in debt. Ting Hai forces his sons to commit suicide by jumping off from the top of the stock exchange building before following after them.

A woman commits several grisly murders. A few days later, she's arrested by the police and tells in flashbacks which events lead her to commit those crimes.

Mary is a nightclub hostess who falls for a married man, John, on her first day at work. Despite knowing his situation, she becomes his mistress and later gets pregnant in a desperate attempt to keep him. However, John rejects her, forcing Mary to undergo an abortion. Heartbroken and disillusioned, she vows to focus only on money. Her next benefactor, Peter, is wealthy but abusive, treating her cruelly and sharing her with his friends. Just as she loses faith in love, she crosses paths with Paul in a parking lot, an encounter that rekindles her hope for a better future.

In the process, he meets the beautiful Qin Xiaohong (played by Guo Aiming), whose cold and arrogant character makes Fei determined to pursue her. Hong's adoptive father, Qin Baojian (played by Liu Jiang), is a master of numerology. He told Hong not to get married before he was thirty years old, otherwise his life would be in danger.
