The film consists of two parts: “Insomnia” and “Departure”. We shall meet Lev Tolstoy in the final years of his life at Yasnaya Polyana. We shall see him surrounded by his family, friends, acquaintances and absolute strangers who were coming to the great man and artist from all over the world. We shall hear “the voice of his thoughts”. In his sleepless nights, we shall follow his memory of the happy youthful years and the crucial, hard ones. We shall witness Tolstoy’s tragic departure from Yasnaya Polyana and his death at an obscure little station of Astapovo.

Day of the Full Moon, a series of vignettes from Russia past and present, summons the spirit of Ophuls’ La Ronde, Altman’s Nashville and Short Cuts, and the time-shifting strategies of Resnais (Mon Oncle d’Amérique) to tell provocative, connected stories illustrating the waltz of years and whim of memory. In 1948, a young man, a boy, and a waiter are captivated during the full moon by a mysterious woman in a lilac dress. The effects of this event ripple across the years, washing over more than 80 characters, including a disc jockey, a fairy princess, a gangster, Alexander Pushkin, and a nostalgic dog. But which of these are dreams, and which reality? Director Shakhnazarov continues his career-long focus on the intersection of past and present with this mysterious, exhilarating mosaic of humankind, which in the end both seduces and satisfies.

In 1904, the Kazakh wrestler Hajja Mukan, inspired by the successes of the Russian hero Ivan Poddubny, the world champion in French wrestling, decided to perform on the big stage.

Summer of 1943, the current of the front. In one of the fierce battles, a T-34 tank is hit. The tank commander Sasha Menshov is seriously wounded. After treatment in the hospital - again the front. On the eve of the big battle there was an order not to enter the battles, to save forces. However, the continuing daring sorties of the fascist tank, which set fire to Menshov's car, lead him to the decision to destroy the German ace. In a duel with Menshov's combat crew the enemy machine is destroyed. This victory was like a prologue to the famous defeat of Hitler's hordes in the tank battle of Prokhorovka.

In the Land of Cold, where the good queen Morozana reigns and ice cream is made for children, the villain Icicle suddenly seized power. The girl Varya, the boy Artyom and his Grandfather join the fight, the magic syrup of Good saves Varya and destroys the Icicle's plans. Friends and Grandpa have again launched the conveyor belt with good old ice cream, which brings joy and goodness to children.

The film was shot in the genre of a Christian parable and focuses on the history of ancient Russia. It is in it that the author seeks an explanation and solution to today's problems.
