Doctor Khasu-Nkatlo

The story is set in the mountains of Kwazulu-Natal on the farm Donkerland. It follows the lives and times of seven generations of the De Witt family, from the Groot Trek in 1838 until 1996.

Kruispad takes place over 13 years between 1994 and 2007 and focuses on the impact of the new dispensation on the prosperity, business interests, and ability of two Afrikaans families to adapt or not adapt.

Timid, wildly imaginative 13-year-old Gideonette de La Rey learns that the name she was given comes with it a horrible curse. After her father dies, Gideonette is paralyzed by fear and is sent to live on a farm in the forest with her grandparents where she befriends a young deaf boy who is “training” to become an astronaut and preparing to fly away in a Moonship that Gideonette’s grandfather had built.
