What starts as an experiment in robotics turns into an adventure every day for the residents of Penguin Village, a wacky rural community with several colorful characters interacting with Arale and her creator.

The story of the Gunparade series takes place in an alternate reality. By the end of World War II, in 1945, an alien race called the Genju suddenly descended upon the war-torn Earth to take it over. Jumping forward to present day (sometime in the year 1999) in the Japanese region of Kyushu we discover the humans are fighting back with newly devised weapons known as Humanoid Walking Tanks (HWT), and the hideous power which is the PBE bomb against the Genju "Brains" leading the assaults on the few safe havens that remain.

The film tells the story of Nyanta, whose birthday party is today. On his way home to prepare for it, he scolds some other kids for irresponsibly playing with fire. When Nyanta gets home, he agrees to look after his mother's cooking while she's away, but a prank set by the same kids from earlier turns into disaster as it causes a fire in the kitchen.

Children are lured to Metropolis only to find that the renowned, mythical city may not be the happy-go-lucky utopia they'd thought it would be.
