Maria is somewhat of a rebel and problem child. Her mother died and her father remarried some awful lady, and Maria isn't happy at all. She takes a drug overdose and winds up in a home for other girls with problems, but the two women who run the place turn out to be not quite the ladies they seemed. Maria knows she can't stay there very long, and starts planning her escape.

Renowned photographer, Larus, returns to Iceland to attend the funeral of his mother. With him is his wife Rose, twenty years his junior. With his homecoming, Larus begins to reminisce on his childhood, and becomes distant from his wife. Soon she begins to realize that not everything is as it should be.

The story spans over 45 years and shows the daily work routine of two co-workers.

Jan Mayen is a narrow island, 50 km long, northeast of Iceland. It belongs to Norway which has a weather- and military station situated there. The island is uninhabited but still has remains of the whaling and fox hunting that once took place there. Birdlife is abundant and a very beautiful stratovolcano, Beerenberg (2200m) crowns the island. The volcano is active, last eruptions occurring in 1970 and 1984.

Love and War is a documentary film about the relationships between Icelandic women and foreign soldiers stationed in Iceland during World War II. Directed by Anna Björnsdóttir, the film is based on research by Inga Dóra Björnsdóttir, a Social Anthropologist, and contains color footage shot in Iceland during the war by an American army photographer, Samuel Kadorian. The film consist of interviews with Icelandic women living in Minnesota, Colorado, California, Virgina and Iceland.

Icelandic scientists and laymen throughout the countryside have monitored volcanoes and earthquake zones for a long time. In recent years, technical equipment has been developed which enables much more effective work. Included are seismometers and inclinometers, devices which can detect small changes in land elevation in volcanic areas. A network of such monitors and seismometers is now in use, monitoring for example, Mt. Hekla, Katla and the Krafla volcano as well the main earthquake zone in S-Iceland. There is a new inter-Nordic project which aims at developing forecasts for earthquakes.

Thorsteinn Jónsson is a living legend in both the aviation world and the "regular" world. When he flew his last flight in 1988, after 46 years in the air, he was the pilot with the highest amount of flight time in the world: most of it employed in adventurous and dangerous flights. This film follows Thorsteinn in his last flight, and walks down memory lane with him where his sparkling recital, and period footage, tells of his years as a pioneer aviator in Iceland, fighting pilot in the second world war, salvation flights into war-torn Biafra, and numerous other interesting and amusing tales.
