Even though the government expelled them from their lands in the name of ecologic preservation 40 years ago, a group of panners keep searching the rivers for gold, deep in Costa Rica’s jungle. Their living as modern pariahs shows their fight for survivance, and questions the country’s conservationist fame.

A night in the life of Juan, a middle-class man from San José, Costa Rica, accustomed to his urban, civilized life in the capital. He has to drive down into Puerto Jiménez, on the south coast, to search for Ignacia, his employee’s wife. The small town reveals itself a labyrinth, Ignacia is nowhere to be found, and Juan has to contend with himself. The violence of the unknown town forces him to deal with the violent behaviours he keeps inside.

Yesenia is the head of a fishermen house on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. In that role she sees everything: the rainy seasons, her husband going to the sea with their five children and the people around that change fishing for drug trafficking
