The film is based on a true story that took place in Düzce in 1954. The spell "Azem," meaning "defender," gives the film its name. The thriller was filmed in a village in Düzce, where the events took place.

Sophisticated black magic were hatched by a malignant sheikh and a mother who came back to visit her son and his wife. The black magic purpose were inconspicuous but it ended up with a crime committed by the wife on her husband.
