Sidika is the story of Saka family and their young daughter Sidika who live in a poor neighborhood of Istanbul. Sidika was not allowed to go to high school, raised to wait her husband-to-be at her fathers home, not even allowed to leave their house on her own. But she educated herself through books, newspapers and TV. She approaches her life, half-witted older brother, oppressive and alcoholic father and traditionalist mother in a satirical and fun manner along with the current political and sociological events of Turkey and the world. She gazes the world through her window as she hungers for all the intellectual accumulation of the universe.

Fırat, nicknamed Kafkas, is a promising young boxer who has never lost a fight. When he steps into the ring for the gold belt match, he has no idea that his life is about to end. He defeats the world champion boxer, but his opponent cannot withstand Kafkas' punches and dies. Fırat's life changes dramatically as a result of this unfortunate event. Even though Fırat wins the gold belt that night, he loses his life, his career, and his pregnant wife. Seven years later, Fırat is forced to return to the ring to fight for Güneş, who has a terminal illness inherited from his mother. Now, Fırat has only one thing on his mind: to keep his son alive. Mavi Sürgün is a fictionalized account of one period of the life of a Turkish journalist who was condemned to exile for an article he wrote in 1925. He turned his punishment into a reward by creating a little paradise in what is today the holiday resort, Bodrum. In fact he is considered by some to be the first ecologist. The film concentrates on this latter aspect of his character and through flashbacks portrays the inner turmoil of a man who is trying to come to terms with his past. The slow pace is somewhat of a drawback, the flashbacks are often confusing and the protagonist is not always very convincing. But the photography of the country side is exceptional Kenan Ormanlar and the short appearance by a very theatrical Hanna Schygulla of Fassbinder fame adds a little spice to the drama.
