Biography
Riaz Shahid was born in 1927 in Quetta, British India. He comes from a Kashmiri family. He is the father of famous Pakistani film star Shahid Shahid. Shaan was just one year old when his father died. His real name is Sheikh Riaz, but his nickname is Shahid. He was educated at the Islamic College in Lahore, Pakistan. Riaz lives in Lahore where he started his career as a reporter for Chataan newspaper and later joined Faiz Ahmed Faiz's Lail-o-Nihar. He also wrote a novel titled Hazar Dastan. Riaz Shahid was introduced to the Pakistani film industry by his friend actor Allauddin as a story and dialogue writer in the film Bharosa (1958). In 1962, Riaz began his film career by directing the film Susraal (1962 film). He collaborated with the famous progressive poet Habib Jalib to create or direct many films, such as "Zarqa" (1969), "Shahid" (1962), "Franji" (1964), "Kah" Moshe Laho" (1964) and "Ye Aman" (1971). Sangeeta, a famous Pakistani film actor and director, said: "Riaz Shahid was a visionary. Whatever is happening in Kashmir today, he was doing very well in the 60s. He was the best director of his time and we should be proud of that. "People were once part of our industry. Another filmmaker, Choudhry Ejaz Kamran, was reported to have said: “Riaz Shahid’s excellence lies not only in his craft but also in his A contribution to meaningful cinema. A film that is as political as it is impressive. "The super hit films made by Shahid are now considered guides for aspiring filmmakers. "Although he dabbled in many genres, he always preferred to make films based on serious and revolutionary ideas."
Known For

This is an adaptation from the short story of Saadat Hasan Manto with the title, "Jhumke". A wife is accused of adultery and her husband leaves her along with her daughter. The husband works hard to send his daughter to the college. On the other side, his wife sold herself to prostitution. The story is related to ear pendants which cause the wife to sell her body to the house owner. The ear pendants now gifted to her daughter by a college fellow who fell in love with her. Now the father is also suspicious about her daughter. As it is a Pakistani movie, they have change characters name to Muslims name.

Daku Ki Larki

Khalid and Rehana come across each other in their college, where they fall for each other after the usual bantering, and get married. Rehana who belongs to an upper-class family in contrary to Khalid, faces hurdles in the marriage created by Sarkar Maa (Khalid's mother). She compromise and tries to save her married life, until she loses her unborn due to her mother-in-law's cruel behaviour. After the incident, she decides to separate from Khalid and leaves him.

It also addresses a real event of Neelo (The Actress) when she was forcibly invited by Nawab Malik Amir Mohammad Khan, the governor of West Pakistan to his office to perform a stage dance during the 1965's official visit of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to Pakistan.

Raaz

A lone foreigner arrives in Saudi Arabia and treated with generosity and hospitality by the Arab tribals. But the guy (named Lawrence) has insidious motives. He has his eyes on the oil deposits deep under the Arab territories, which the Arab chieftain opposes vehemently. With cunning and duplicity he manages to overthrow the chieftain, and gets his way with the blessings of the incumbent ruler. He sets up an oil drill and refinery, and exports the oil to foreign countries while paying a token amount of cash to the Arab ruler. He also colludes with the local Jews and uses a popular cabaret dancer named Laila to get her followers and fans hooked on opium. But an Arab blacksmith named Haris has been on to Lawrence, and plans a resistance with the exiled former chieftain.
