Told in reverse chronological order, the story starts in the present (June 7, 1994), when the stock market rebounded after the market became volatile and crashed for the weekend. After the stock market stopped trading for the weekend, the Ting's make the wrong bet and their entire fortune is wiped out, compounded by ending up in billions of dollars in debt. Ting Hai forces his sons to commit suicide by jumping off from the top of the stock exchange building before following after them.

The Files of Justice is a series of Hong Kong legal drama produced by TVB. There were 5 seasons produced, the first was aired in 1992 spanning 13 episodes. The series revolves around a group of lawyers and legal personnel with stories interwoven between their personal lives and the court cases in which they’re engaged. This drama is Bobby Au Yeung's TV debut.

After the death of his fiancee (Pauline Yeung), triad legend Ming Tin (Alex Man) washes his hands of the underworld, retreating to a quiet life running a small mahjong parlor. He originally disavowed himself of romance as well, but two very different women (Tanny Tien and Teresa Mo) wander into his life. Ming Tin lives with his mother (Lee Heung Kam), uncle (Ng Man Tat), and cousin Gam Sui (Stephen Chow). Ming Tin and Gam Sui are as close as brothers, but Gam Sui's father has a grudge against Ming Tin, leading to many barbs and bickers in this odd family. When Gam Sui and his father unwittingly stumble onto the wrong sides of the track, it's up to Ming Tin to pull them back with his old connections.

The series started off with the Bak family being hunted down by the people of the martial arts world. They are a well-known family and consist of 5 members: the father--Bak Fung Tin, the mother, and their 3 children: Jin Man, Yuk Ying, and Jin Mo. Fung Tin was said to have murdered the leaders of 4 powerful sects, so the head of the martial arts world ordered that his whole family be killed.

During the later years of the Kangxi Emperor's rule, his many sons were vying for the throne. The fourth prince, aided by Lusi, Nian Gengyao, and Han Chong, while the fourteenth prince had the support of martial arts master Zeng Jing. The competition between the two became intense. Lusi developed a romantic relationship with the fourth prince while Zeng Jing also had feelings for her, making their situation more complicated. Later, the fourth prince killed Kangxi and altered the imperial edict, successfully usurping the throne and naming himself Emperor Yongzheng. From then on, Yongzheng ruthlessly eliminated dissidents and even betrayed those who helped him, causing Lusi to regret her involvement. Ultimately, the fourteenth prince plotted to assassinate Yongzheng with the help of Zeng Jing and Lusi, igniting a fierce battle.

TV reporter Wei Haiyi (Played by Maggie Shao) interviews the cage house where the urban poor live, and meets the young Ma Zhongbao (Wen Zhaolun). Zhongbao grew up in a cage house since childhood, indulged in reading all day long, and his personality was extremely closed. After the interview, Haiyi inadvertently took away Zhongbao's novel "Frog and Scorpion", and was deeply impressed by Zhongbao's bitter pursuit. The highly reputable lawyer and lawmaker Cham Yourong (Luo Yingjun) is the underground lover of Haiyi's mother, Wei Jinling (Miao Jinfeng), but intends to invade Haiyi, and Haiyi kills him in a hurry. Ling-wu Chung, a senior student of the Wah Mount Sect, was not at all brilliant when he joined the Sect, but was soon taught to master the sword by a legendary swordsman Yeung. Chung’s master, Kwan, resented this and drove Chung away. In order to get hold of “Kwai Fa Bo Din”, the book on the most powerful martial art, Kwan diverts attention by secretly creating troubles everywhere. Chung, on the other hand, becomes the leader of the Hang Mount Sect by chance and falls in love with Kwan's daughter. When she betrays him, he turns to the daughter of the Devil Sect leader, and thus causes a love triangle between them.

Gao Tianyuan and his wife Zhuo Feng'er live in seclusion in the Tian Shan mountains due to his father's dismissal from officialdom. They go down the mountain to reunite with his father but he is suddenly killed, and Feng'er defects to Tianzheng Sect's leader, Ren Wo weihuai. Devastated, Tianyuan starts a new life under a false identity until he meets Sikong Aoshi and becomes involved in the martial world again. He decides to seek revenge for his father's death and becomes an official, but his impatience leads to a dangerous mistake. Later, he discovers that the real culprit wants to rebel and dominate the martial world, and he teams up with Aoshi to eliminate the threat.

During the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, eunuch Cao Huachun colludes with the Qing dynasty to seize the throne. Princess Changping and her sister Zhaoren seek the help of Zhou Shixian and Yuan Ruofei to eliminate Cao.
