Inspector Montalbano is an Italian television series produced and broadcast by RAI since 1999, based on the detective novels of Andrea Camilleri. The protagonist is Commissario Salvo Montalbano, and the stories are set in the imaginary town of Vigata, Sicily. In 2012 the series generated a prequel, Il giovane Montalbano.

The true story of Rosario Livatino, a young judge in Sicily in the early 1980s, who have been nicknamed 'The Boy Judge' from the President of the Republic. He's strictly incorruptible, working hard and refusing even to shake hands with suspects. He then starts a number of investigations that lead him to touch the mafia power in the area, and then to personal war with the hidden organization.

Giovanni is a criminal lawyer who is successful both at work and with women, despite a happy marriage. One day, however, his life is turned upside down by the sudden intrusion of Sara, a beautiful professional used to conquering men to fight boredom. Seized by an increasingly pressing passion, Giovanni leaves his family but shortly after he is in turn left by Sara, afraid of establishing a stable relationship with him.

The film is set in Reggio Calabria in the late eighties, when bribes are everywhere and the power of the city is in the hands of two bosses: Saro Lodato and Cocò Raffati.
