Documentary film about a slum community on the outskirts of Recife, a major city in northeastern Brazil. A portrait of life in extreme poverty and lawlessness: men without work, hopeless women, hungry and sick children.

In reunified Berlin, a city guide from the Eastern part of the city offers tours for West Berliners and grapples with his pre and post "Wende" identity.

In northeastern Brazil, day laborers and peasants flee from the arbitrariness of the big landowners to the big cities. The film team accompanies them on this journey full of misery and hopelessness.

Together with Danker Home Nursing, this film takes us through the Wilmersdorf widows' district around Bundesplatz. What does it look like behind the curtains of old and sick people in the big city of Berlin? How important is it that someone comes by from time to time, not only to change a bandage, but also to talk. We meet sprightly war widows, lonely old and sick people and a former rock star who is now in a wheelchair.

Manuel is only 11 years old, but he already works on a sugar cane plantation located in northeastern Brazil. His father and older brother are also employed here. Manuel works on a huge roller that is used to press out the sugar cane. His friends transport the squeezed sugar cane away, dry the remains on the farm or help transport the cut cane to the mill. The film shows Manuel's daily work and describes the different steps of sugar production on the plantation. Manuel hopes that his younger siblings will soon be able to help, because although Manuel contributes to the family income, it is often not enough to feed the family of nine.

The movie is about two young men who want to become master chimney sweeps. Michael Creutz goes to America to let off steam as a bodybuilder, returns disillusioned and worries about his wife, children and chimney sweep job. Karsten Schulze doesn't want to become a "demigod in black", tries his hand at many professions, gets married and is now the boss of a floor laying company. The friendship between the different characters remains.

Portrait of four working class families sharing the same hobby: rabbit breeding.

The film traces the development of the Turkish Yilmaz family, who have lived in Berlin for 20 years. The grandparents were born in nomadic tents in the Turkish mountains and were brought to Berlin by Siemens. The sons run a cleaning company. The children don't really know whether they are Turkish or German. From the nomadic tent near Malatya, the filmmakers follow their son Emre Yilmaz to grammar school in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.

The film tells the story of four generations of single mothers from the Storbeck family: grandma, mother, daughters and a granddaughter. All of them live on social welfare and cannot escape the spiral of financial hardship. The children's fathers don't pay alimony and the fear of an empty fridge is great.

The film tells the story of the miraculous transformation of celebrity lawyer Ülo Salm. Once a representative of the rich and famous, he was later accused of large-scale fraud and sentenced to more than five years in prison after 14 months on remand. He wants to change his life. In America, he revisits his happy student days. His wife Constanze Salm von Rohn, who has since divorced him, runs a boutique and also works as a top gossip journalist.

The Dahms family has been running a bakery on Bundesplatz since the beginning of 1980. When Gerhard Dahms falls seriously ill, the bakery has to be sold. He dies of throat cancer. Gerda Dahms tries to get through life on Hartz IV and the Berlin food bank without losing her optimism.

The film portrays two homosexuals from Bundesplatz over a period of 23 years: Reimar Lenz, the non-conformist intellectual and Hans Ingebrand, a painting masseur. The two men have lived together for many years, are politically active and both experienced discrimination in their youth that still affects them today. They embrace their "otherness" and register a same-sex partnership for life at the registry office in Schmargendorf.
