In the fall of 1938, three former fighters of the international brigade — russian Shukhov, frenchman Henri and american Liz — fall into a resort town on the border of Spain and France. Having met a nurse who is supposed to send Spanish children to Corsica, they decide to help her. However, a fascist rebellion suddenly breaks out in the city, and the children are held hostage to criminals.

Partisans attack a column of hundred german trucks cisterns, that carry fuel to the front. However, their action is difficult, as Germans have chained Soviet prisoners to the driving wheels. The mission is to stop and destroy the column and save the lives of the prisoners.

During the war, the Germans exported breeding horses from Russia, among which was Ermakov’s favorite. After the war, he managed to find her and return her to Russia, but the tribal certificate was lost. And now, forty years later, the granddaughter of this horse - the magnificent race mare Secunda - is being sold for pennies at an international auction to a certain Baron von Ritter. Ermakov guesses about the true owner of the “lost” document and, in the end, returns it to himself.

A wealthy American businessman, Mr. Clarke, forces his dissolute but charming nephew James to go with him to Russia, where he buys a Faberge watch that belonged to Nicholas II himself. He is received by Mr. Borsch, who dreams of becoming a minister by signing a lucrative contract. A representative of a Japanese company, nicknamed the Samurai during the auction, is hunting for the same watch. Borshch's wife also "laid eyes" on an antique watch, and a talented thief leaves the prison. All the participants of the future adventures met at the restaurant, where James met the beautiful niece of Borsch's wife. Mr. Clark flies to Namibia, instructing his nephew to put the watch in the hotel safe. Naturally, on the same evening, the watch is stolen...

Based on the eponymous drama by A.S. Pushkin. TV version of the performance by the Drama and Comedy Theatre on Taganka (director Yuri Lyubimov).
