Biography
Sudović, Zlatko, Croatian film director (Zagreb, July 20, 1929 – Zagreb, July 24, 2017). He graduated from the School of Cinematography in Zagreb (1949). Playwright in Zora-film and Jadran-film 1957–63, directed short films (about 25 in total) from 1963, among which The Bridge (1965) and City of Birds in the City of People (1973) stand out. Since 1969, he worked for Television Zagreb, for which he directed several teaching and educational films about Croatian writers (J. Kaštelan, M. Krleža, V. Parun, etc.) and the notable series Što je film? (1972–73; 1985–87). He edited the encyclopedic edition Zagrebački krug cartoon film (I–IV, 1978). Other notable films: Settlement on the Fifth Track (1966), Morning Chronicle (1967), People, Years, the Sea (1968), Wild Station Defiance (1969), Long Journey of Dobriša Cesarić (1976), Josip Vaništa (1977), Film Portrait of Miroslav Krleža (1978), Vigilante painter Marino Tartaglia (1979), Cathedral organist Anđelko Klobučar (1988).
Known For
Based on an eponymous novel by Veljko Kovačević. the series is focused on historical events and personalities from the uprisings in Gorski Kotar and the Croatian Littoral in the Second World War.
The Bonfires of Kapela
The birth date of film can be established: December 28, 1895. The place where it happened is also known: Paris, Boulevard des Capucines, Grand Caffe. It is also known who did it first: Louis Lumiere. However, the history of film starts in distant, almost unknown times: from drawings of cave people, through reliefs from Egyptian times, to the discovery of photography. We live with films every day, and it seems nothing easier than answering the question: what is a film? Obviously, a film is, first and foremost, a document, a testimony of the world that surrounds us. The rich expressional possibilities of film are based on the imperfection of the human eye, its sluggishness, so thanks to the stroboscopic effect we can animate a still image. Film is therefore a kinetic image, or a moving image. It can make the invisible visible, bring the distant closer, enlarge the small, speed up the slow, slow down the fast, and return the end to the beginning. The technological basis of film: light, film tape, camera, projector, film screen. Expressive possibilities of film: scientific, documentary, communicative, artistic. Introduction to Filmmaking
The film was inspired by the interesting folk custom of the time of burning tires on the railway, all in order to stop the train and get on it, given that there was no real station and the train did not even stop.
