Polizeiruf 110 is a long-running German language detective television series. The first episode was broadcast 27 June 1971 in the German Democratic Republic, and after the dissolution of Fernsehen der DDR the series was picked up by ARD. It was originally created as a counterpart to the West German series Tatort, and quickly became a public favorite.

1949. Grafenberg in Brandenburg shortly before the foundation of the GDR. Here lives Michel Hollmann and works in roadmaking. His purpose in life are his wife Lotte and the two children Gerda and Heinz, for whom he is reconstructing a summerhouse into a “nest”. In Grafenberg, his siblings are living as well: His brother Karl, the mayor, and sister-in-law Edith, who works in a textile factory, with their son Jürgen. Edeltraut, his sister, has married the lamp fabricant Berthold Bennert and leads a well-off life. They as well have a son: Harald. Part of the family are further sister Hanna and brother-in-law Hermann, who is a fisherman on one of the local lakes and conducts a tenacious private war against old Stegewald and his presumptive prince-electoral rights. They are living their lives with their large and small conflicts, with different intentions, and yet remain connected always.

In the spring of 1945, the last war clashes took place on the Czech-Moravian border. However, amidst the heavy gunfire, colourful boyhood adventures also take place. The main characters, however, are oblivious to the dangers lurking around them and bravely enter situations in which even adults would hesitate.

Pensioner Erich Zarling loves two things: his daughter Ulrike and his dog sports club, of which he is chairman. But this position is in danger, so he wants to make himself indispensable with a daring move: He wants to build a sports clubhouse. He has come up with a curious idea to raise the funds: the sale of thirty state-owned trees from Berlin's Puschkinallee. His daughter Ulrike, who loves to sing and dance, is a chambermaid at the "Stadt Berlin" hotel. And against her father's wishes, she dreams of the boards that mean the world. A guest, the pop singer Balter, hires her as a replacement for his absent partner at the "Night of the Celebrities". He promises her more, but disappoints her. Father Zarling comforts her and they sing the "Rose Song" together in his tricked-out sportsman's home.

Dr. Zacharias is an experienced and demanding woman. She sees her daughter Manuela as the continuation and fulfillment of her own life. She wants her daughter to achieve as much or more than her, and under the easier conditions of the present time. But Manuela does not seem to be the type who can fulfill this aspiration, as she is superficial and stubborn. Manuela is even expelled from the university for cheating. But even now she seems unwilling to recognize her mistakes and turn her life around.

Ekke and Karsten are newcomers to the shipyard. Paddy claims to have heard it on Rügen radio. But the two did not fall on their heads, even if they still fear that their accommodation, the "Fritz Heckert" accommodation ship, could be - as it is called - a "working-class monastery". Not only do they find out from Paddy that such worries are unfounded, they experience it for themselves.

A young boy is getting ready to start school and can't wait till September 1st.
