Ein Fall für zwei is a German television series, which premiered on September 11, 1981 on ZDF. The series, located in Frankfurt am Main, features two main characters who solve crimes: a defense attorney and a private investigator. Josef Matula, a former German police officer, has gone into private business. His method of investigation is very effective and direct, and he sometimes even resorts to dirty tricks. Claus Theo Gärtner has portrayed the role since the start of the series.

The two wealthy citizens Harald and Günter are in love with the pretty Emilie. Since Emilie doesn't want to choose one of them, and since neither of them wants to back out, the two men resort to a strange role-playing game: they play cowboys. Dressed up as cowboys, they fight a duel over several rounds in the middle of a nameless German city that becomes increasingly meaningless...

The life and death of the fictional star Wilma Montesi is reported in the form of a staged newsreel. Excerpts from films of various genres and eras are juxtaposed with "documentary material" about the star's public and private life. By stringing together clichés and cinematic quotations, a certain reporting and narrative style about the glamor and misery of show business is presented in a critical and ironic, but at the same time entertaining way.
