During a tour of the province, someone mistakenly leaves a baby in a singer's car without him noticing. António decides to take the child in, with Madalena, a fellow artist. But the presumed mother, claiming it was a mistake, enlists the help of her brother, a police officer, which leads to a chase to Porto.

João and Jaime work as taxi drivers for the same company. But, once the company's vault is robbed by Raul, the manager's son, João is the one to blame.

Rui, a young musician, is writing poems for the vaudeville company.

In order to make some much-needed cash for himself, 65-year-old Portuguese prison inmate Eugenio impersonates a young woman and begins a romantic correspondence with a lonely Portuguese truck-driver living in Boston, convincing him that her tragic life has culminated in financial dire straits so he will send money. At first Eugenio's sister Idalina assists him in creating the character of Maria da Luz. Touched by her sweetness and apparent loving nature, the trucker willingly sends her money. When Idalina starts fearing they will be caught, she backs out of her arrangement with Eugenio who then convinces his young cellmate Vasco to help write the letters and even sends a picture of himself at age seven to "prove" that Maria has a young son. As prison life exacts an increasingly heavy toll upon Eugenio's health, his feminine alter-ego helps sustain him.

António, a factory worker of immense musical talent, is discovered by a business man who launches him as a singer. Nevertheless, this changes the man's life for better and for worst.

Jorge, a former marine who arrived from Angola, is employed as a butler in a house in S. Pedro do Estoril, where the brothers Teresa and Carlos live, who have many friends "ié-ié", among whom stands out Manela, for whom Jorge ends up falling in love... after all, Jorge is the real owner of the residence, and he decided to take a closer look at the lives of his cousins, who settled there, during his absence overseas.
