Based on the true story of a Russian serial killer who, over many years, claimed victim to over 50 people. His victims were mostly under the age of 17. In what was then a communists state, the police investigations were hampered by bureaucracy, incompetence and those in power. The story is told from the viewpoint of the detective in charge of the case.

Waiters’ competition at Heroes’ Square in the late thirties. Dressed as waiters, Kapa and Pepe awake in the bronze chariot of the millennial sculpture group. They drive along the Danube promenade, and on the concrete reinforcement of the demolished Budapest rondella hotel they get involved in a showdown of political background. In the burnt-down Sports Hall the waiters train for a last supper, Pepe and Kapa run around the big laid table with trays in their hands. While doing so, Pepe keeps crying out: "I am the best one, I am the most beautiful one, I am the king, I am the god..." Sitting in a boat on the Danube, a ship goes past them, and the Niagara falls, majestic and breathtaking, resound in their ears. On each passing away something new will come to life – as rapped by Sub Bass Monster.

The peanuts are few, a little late, some of them not knowing if they have arrived at the right time, if they are doing the right thing, if they have chosen well, and what the future holds. In the meantime they eat, slaughter pigs, make love, sleep, yearn, listen to peanut songs, die badly, even their cameras are made of wood. It's a bad film because it doesn't accurately articulate and show what the message of the peanuts is; it's often sentimental and gets bogged down in detail, one young man said it was 'so old'. When we were editing it, I realised the peanuts were very much like me, so the faults are in me. Maybe it's just that I can't separate professionally, and it's hard to change, even though I've tried, to my pioneering credit. Imre Horváth and his friends gather to celebrate his wife's birthday. They are confused because of the changes in the country's politics and want Horváth to be much more active politically, but he is more concerned about his affair with his best friend's daughter.
