A widower from Split arrives in Zagreb for a medical checkup and disrupts his son’s family everyday.
Operation Barbarossa is a kids TV show, based on the novel The Mysterious Boy by Ivan Kušan. It is a story about a boy who for some time lives in the belief that he is to blame for the death of a friend, a peer, who drowned in the Sava river. In order to cover up his death, the boy takes his name (because he had just come to Zagreb when he disappeared) also goes to another school. Thus, in two shifts (before noon - afternoon), he tries to be a student in two schools and gets into many dramatic situations. The riddle is, of course, solved by Kušan's main character Koko.
On May 13 1990, Kizo, Filip, Buba and Tomo try to gather together a grouping in other to go and see the highly anticipated match between the soccer teams Dinamo from Zagreb and Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) from Belgrade. However, seemingly all of their fellow fans are in some way or another unable to come to the stadium. And unbenkownst to all of them, this game will trigger one of the darkest moments in Croatian history.
During the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s, the Croat Ante and the Serb Duško fought on opposing sides. After the confilct had concluded, as many others before and after them, they moved on with their lives and found happyness in other places. Ante returned to his small village in the Dalmatian Hinterland and turned to alcoholism. Duško moved to Banja Luka and continued his life as a professional volleyball player, trying to be the best possible father for his young daughter Ingrid and get over the recent news of his wife's affair with his best man. Their routine is suddenly thwarted when a mysterious man in black named Antiša enters their lives and takes them away to an abanndoned warehouse near Zagreb, offering them a large sum of money under one simple condition: if they testify against a war criminal on an international tribunal.
