Chronicles the love life of a man, Zhenbao. He has a steamy fling with the wife of a friend, the saucy and exciting Red Rose. Even though he feels happy with her, he knows he will not end up with her. To maintain his reputation, he marries an antiseptic, frigid but classy lady of a prim and proper background. Dissonance abound when he finds his bride irritating.

An exploration of Chinese cinema and its relationships with gender and sexuality, which the film argues has been more frankly and provocatively explored than in any other national cinema. Utilizing both film excerpts and interviews with many leading directors and academics, the film examines topics such as male bonding in kung fu movies, depictions of same-sex bonding and physical intimacy, the emphasis on women's grievances in melodramas, and the career of Yam Kim-Fai, a Hong Kong actress who spent her life portraying men on and off the screen.

Premiered in Hong Kong in 2014, “Art School Musical” has toured to 8 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Chongqing, Xiamen, Zhuhai, Macau and Taipei. This screening version was recorded during the tour in Taipei in 2016. It’s Zhu Yingtai’s dream to study art in university. She believes it’s the perfect path to achieve her values and goals. Zhu’s parents, however, do not support her daughter’s decision. Instead, they want Zhu to study business at a top university, forcefully imposing their will on her. Having no choice but to run away from her home, Zhu manages to enter an art school as she wishes. There, she meets Liang Shanbo.

The film tells the story of a friendship between a girl, Jane, and a boy, Mike, who wander around an arcade in an urban village, fighting together against the worries of growing up in a depressing environment.
