Honey Hunters

A life story of bees and people. In order to get to the bottom of the mysteries of the life of bees and show them to the audience, the camera enters a contemporary hive and a traditional wild beehive drilled in the trunk of an old tree. It wanders the forests in Poland and Ural, mountains in Nepal and... roofs of Paris and Warsaw. For millions years bees have been laboriously building the natural environment of our planet. These days, they started to die by millions. A programme of wild tree beekeeping reintroduction was launched in Polish forests. It has been an ancient local tradition. Maybe reaching for the past, the original model of coexistence of bees and people, for wild tree beekeeping, can help us to save the bees? After watching “Honey Hunters” everyone wants to have their own beehive and harvest their own honey!

In Slowanski National Park, always watch your step. Home to Europe’s largest moveable dunes, this Polish park is renowned for destroying everything in its path. Thousands of years ago, the Baltic Sea formed an enormous dune here. It was then overtaken by forests, which were in turn completely destroyed by fire. Once free from the plants, the sand began to move, and from this point on, nothing was resilient to its whims. Huge piles of quartz devoured forests, lakes, swamps – even human settlements.

A tribute to a Polish jazz drummer, Jacek Olter (1971-2001). Olter played in many bands connected to so called 'yass' scene and was considered one of the best young talents in the genre. Though presently not as blossoming as in previous decade, Yass (a term coined in the 1980s) was a musical amalgam of various styles, with strong jazz/improv roots and influenced by punk rock, folk, electronica.
