Kensaku Kojima

A desolate land stretches out from the city of poverty. A motorcycle speeds recklessly, blowing clouds of sand and dust. The rider is the protagonist of this story – he has neither a name nor a past. All he has is his ring name, “Junk Dog” and a technique for rigging MEGALOBOX matches with his pal Gansaku Nanbu, which they use to support their hand-to-mouth lives. JD is bored, resigned, and unfulfilled. Yuri has been the reigning champion of MEGALOBOX for the past few years. He has the skills and presence of a true champion. This is a story of JD and his rival, Yuri.

Fukutaro, the former president of a board game company, continues to show up at work even after handing over his position to his son-in-law. Fukutaro grabs anyone he can to repeatedly brag about the same past exploits, which irritates those around him. Triggered by an event, his daughter finally unleashes her unspoken true feelings about his toxic old-age behavior. Although Fukutaro seems sad and apologetic, he secretly plots a counterattack with his five elderly fellows.

Kotaro Yamaki, the main character of such a story and an individual taxi driver, loves Chinese food in the town. Most of the famous Chinese restaurants in Tokyo are in my head, and after sending customers, the man stops at the famous Chinese restaurants in the town. And he eats the supreme gem. The "joy of life" born there. It is linked to the life of the customer I met by taxi. After eating, the man who left the store slowly lit a cigarette and muttered. "Well, do you want to run another run?" Then the man started running in the night city again.

Keisuke Ninomiya (Yu Yokoyama) works as a construction consultant. Through his work, he becomes acquainted with yakuza Yasuhiko Kuwabara (Kuranosuke Sasaki). One day, film producer Koshimizu brings a movie investment proposal to yakuza leader Shimada. Shimada decide to invest in the film and he assigns Yasuhiko Kuwabara to oversee his investment in the film. Film producer Koshimizu though runs away with their investment money. Keisuke and Yasuhiko struggle to get Shimada’s money back from Koshimizu.

Keiko Tsuruoka’s film is at once traditional and contemporary: it gently mixes present-day gender and sexuality politics with the old-fashioned Japanese domestic drama. Traditional lacquerwork kitchenware is the Aoki family’s legacy, handed down to patriarch Seishiro (Kaoru Kobayashi) by his now-ailing father (Masayuki Suzuki). Seishiro expects to pass it in turn to his son Yu (Ryota Bando), but Yu has no interest in the craft—quite unlike daughter Miyako (Mayu Hotta), who loves it dearly. The stage is set for conflict, as established cultural traditions collide with modern mores…
