In a Mexican village during XIX century, word spread of a curse. Old José tells Carmen about the curse surrounding the Bridge of Punishment, said to affect anyone who wishes for another person’s death.

Alberto is born in wartime, where his father dies a hero. He grows up effeminate. His mother sends him to military college where Fernando bullies him, but they become friends. When war comes, he has to face his fears.

A writer is given custody of his editor's daughter after she is orphaned. Once she grows up, they become romantically involved.

Mario marries Blanca, the queen of operetta, but after their daughter is born, they separate and she leaves on a world tour to continue her artistic career. Meanwhile, he stays behind and waits with the baby until they reunite again.

In a poor neighborhood in Mexico City, two gangs of kids fight for control of the center where they work as "boleros", musicians or announcers. "Completo" joins the gang led by "Rorro", a rival of the group headed by "Curricán".
