Patsy Ka Ling

Chor Yuen started his directorial career with a bang. From its very first image, The Natural Son establishes Chor as a filmmaker of stylistic flourish, which would be sustained in various forms throughout his long tenure. Adapted from '30 cents' pulp fiction, it is a Kong Ngee melodrama made in the studio's mould, with Westernised characters and trendy middle-class lifestyles. Yet, Chor's first film is not exempt from the social urgency that characterises the Cantonese cinema of his father, Cheung Wood-yau. The film cloaks its entertainment in a moral deliberation on blood ties, its story about the raising of a bastard child a head-on challenge of archaic family values. An ostentatious start for a colourful and eventful career.

Lee Jwo Horng is fresh out of jail after doing time for 15 years. By then his fiancée Betty has already become the mistress of triad boss One-Eye Jack. Lee doesn't want his younger brother Chih Shen to look down upon him, so he decides to keep his release a secret from Chih Shen, and finds accommodation with his friend Ah Han instead. Jack forces Lee to team up with him again for more criminal jobs, but, determined to clean up his act and stay out of trouble, Lee doesn't yield to his pressure. Jack then turns his attention to Chih Shen and lures him to the dark side instead...

Incognizant to all, the victim was Siu-ying's twin sister Kwok-ying, who bore witness to Tsui's misappropriation of their wealth for drug trafficking. Refusing to abandon the probe, Bo-chen is held up by Tsui. Deeply perturbed by Ma's investigation into his secret dealings, Tsui coerces Mei-chen to distract her boyfriend long enough for his escape. Refusing to bow to the threat, Mei-chen informs Ma who leads his squad to the rescue of the sister and arrests Tsui and his accomplices.

Banker Fung Yan-tsang is a seasoned criminal in fraudulent activities. The righteous cat burglar Ham Siu-fo has issued a deadline for Fung to return the scammed money. Despite the obstacles put up by Fung's allies Chow Wai-pak and his stepwife Julie, Ham still manages to reclaim the money which is accordingly returned to the customers. In the process, Ham is reunited with her long-lost twin sister Katherine, Chow's daughter. Since losing her mother whose health took a turn for the worse after Chow's marriage to Julie, Ham has undertaken a chivalrous course in the footsteps of her aunt. She thwarts the scam marriage set up by Fung for Katherine and his idle son, using the servant Chu Yat-keung as bait, and exposes Fung's illicit affair with Julie. Crossing boundaries of class and wealth, the servant Chu and Katherine become man and wife. A happy Ham leaves, continuing to devote her life to the causes of social justice.

Ah-gau (Keung Chung-ping) leaves his wife Sou Jing, and son in Macau for Nanyang to join his cousin (Patrick Tse Yin) in search of employment. A series of events propel Ah-gau into high society and he falls in love with a tycoon’s daughter, Ming-zyu, (Patsy Kar Ling). Lawyer Fan Kam-man believes that his wife Chun Yuen-yung perished in a plane crash three years ago and walks down the aisle again with Yan Bik-kei. In fact, Chun survived a crash-landing on a deserted island with fellow passenger Wong Ah-lik, a biologist. Returning to civilisation, Chun sabotages their wedding night at the hotel. Overjoyed with her safe return, Fan pulls off a feat with his mother and wife to terrify Yan into divorcing him. However the lie is exposed when Wong shows up. Unyielding, the women settle to serve as wives to the same man. Mistaking Fan for the person Chun is going to see, the eavesdropping Yan goes to the date in her stead and unwittingly sleeps with Wong. Yan finally settles for Wong, putting an end to the topsy-turvy.

A Chinese man, Yip Ching (Patrick Tse Yin) and a Malay girl Solina (Molly Wu Kar) are two young people very much in love. However, Yip Ching’s mother disapproves of this inter-racial relationship. When Yip Ching plans to visit his aunt and cousins in Hong Kong, Solina’s insecurity causes her to threaten him with a curse. Yip Ching proceeds with his trip to Hong Kong, but Solina’s curse appears to come true in a series of unfolding tragedies.

The movie tells the story of a playboy named Kam Ka Po, who puts chasing girls first and his career second. His father only wanted him to get married and start a family as soon as possible, and even used economic blockade to force him to submit.

One Duel Too Many

A film by the Shaw Brothers studio starring Betty Loh Tih and Peter Chen Ho.

An avid fan of film star Patsy Kar Ling, Tse Sing falls head over heels for his new colleague Cheung Wai-ling who is a spitting image of the star, not knowing that she is the mistress of Manager Chow. When his wife comes to check the new secretary out, Chow lies that she is Tse's wife. When the truth dawns on the eager suitor, he heaps scorn on her. The distressed Cheung becomes suicidal and before taking the fatal pills, opens her heart to Mrs Chow. She is saved in time and, touched by her words, Tse professes his love for her and wins her heart.
