Biography
A leading figure in independent and experimental cinema and audiovisual production from the late 1960s onwards, Miscuglio was the founder in 1967, with Americo Sbardella and Paolo Castaldini, of Filmstudio 70, the first Italian underground film club. During the 1970s she began her activity as a filmmaker and activist, taking part in the first Italian feminist collectives and films, and in 1976 she organized Kinomata, the first international women's film conference-festival in Rome, with Roni Daopoulo. At the same time, she allowed herself the creative and productive freedom of super8, creating small experimental works. At the end of the 1970s she chose to dedicate herself completely to directing, working mainly for television; one of the very few production fields in which women, albeit to a limited extent, had some room for manoeuvre. Miscuglio's activity is intense and multifaceted, but unknown to most, given the invisibility to which female creativity is often condemned even today - especially if carried out in independent contexts.
Known For
A documentary ostensibly about Anna, a young drug addict taken off the streets by one of the filmmakers. Through her they attempt to explore the social issues from their hippie perspective, instead they create a revealing, uncomfortable self-portrait and inadvertently raise questions about documentary film-making.

I Fuori Campo di Anna are approximately 30 tapes containing the video footage from which the film was edited, along with other video material shot during the same period. Thanks to the work of Annamaria Licciardello, the Cineteca Nazionale, the A.P.S. Grifi, and the La Camera Ottica lab in Gorizia, these hours of footage have been restored and made accessible.

The female question in all its aspects is highlighted through interviews with women in different situations and conditions. Older women who have been working for years in the general markets since the early morning and who then return home and continue to work as housewives, then the workers of a factory occupied, a housewife, a woman who tells of her experience with sex and a woman who tells of her clandestine abortion, a new mother who tells about her motherhood and then interviews with girls elementary school that already, despite them, undergo an education based on patriarchy values.
