A young man’s visit to the Museo Reale Galleria Sabauda in Turin, in the presence of a peacock. Walking among the masterpieces of antiquity the presence of the peacock underlines the essential precariousness of the living animal and its impairment that renders it inapt to represent its nature. The image is made even more dramatic due to the emptiness of the halls. The old animal, object of the care of its master, is a metaphor of the combination of a faded vanity and the eternal journey into beauty, a trip defined by Rainer Maria Rilke as “the tremendous at its beginning.” The fragility of art, to which the title of the work refers to, engages the observer’s gaze and warns of the necessity to provide protection of art and cultural heritage as a form of resistance to time and carelessness of man.
A bare house made of glass and concrete is inhabited by a woman who repeats routine gestures under the control of a distant gaze. The film is part of the program Mascarilla 19 commissioned and produced by Fondazione In Between Art Film.
Blind mirrors is shot entirely inside the ballroom of Palazzo Valguarnera Gangi in Palermo which is characterized by the magnificence of the furnishings that inspired Luchino Visconti for the setting of the dance in the film “Il Gattopardo”. While Visconti had represented the detachment between the old declining aristocracy and the new bourgeoisie of the time, MASBEDO have recreated a scene in which the protagonist is a typical dance (Bharatanatyam) of the Tamil community, a minority well rooted in the city of Palermo.
With its four variations on the theme of "absence", The Lack is a film starring six female characters: six women immersed in a silent and primitive natural environment, who undertake a journey of self-discovery in a sublime, mysterious setting. They experience abandonment, separation, courage and exertion and, through this inner voyage, try to put the broken pieces back together and fill the emptiness in their lives.
A quasi-sequel to Michel Houellebecq's novel The Possibility of an Island, Masbedo's short presents a post-apocalyptic landscape overseen by a distant mother nature or perhaps mother of nature portrayed by French icon Juliette Binoche.
"Greta Garbo" is a man who possesses the secret of a recipe, or an actor/actress who insists and hopes to always be a muse for someone. The illusion, the power that this creates, its allure, but also its sense of loneliness and insecurity that grips, and finally chooses vanity as a possible substitute for love.
