Takeshi Hongo is a promising young man with a passion for motorcycle racing. However, his dreams are suddenly ruined when he gets kidnapped by Shocker, the evil secret organization planning to dominate the world. After being remodeled into a cyborg, Takeshi escapes and swears to protect the world from the inhuman monsters.

The heroine Balsa is a skilled bodyguard and a masterful spear-wielder. One day she rescues Prince Chagum who has fallen into a river. The prince is carrying a mysterious spirit egg in his body, and is in danger of being assassinated by his father, the Mikado, who fears this will damage his imperial prestige. Balsa embarks upon a perilous journey when she accepts the queen’s plead to protect her son from her husband.

July 1590, Odawara. Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army had surrounded the Odawara Castle for over 3 months, hoping to conquer this last obstacle to his dream of the country's unification. Standing at the gate of the castle, a lone man facing the menacing guards shouted out: "Do not throw your lives away. Treasure living!". Not long after, the castle gates opened and the reigning lord surrendered. The name of that man is Kuroda Kanbee. An excellent military strategist, he worked hand-in-hand with Hideyoshi to unify the country.

A young girl named Kiki must leave her home for a year to begin training in witchcraft. She leaves on her broom, but first says goodbye to her friends and family. Kiki then begins her new life with her trusted cat Jiji.

Protagonist Shinji Aratani is a man who lost everything around him—successful career, family, and friends—due to a twist of fate. His current job title is Chief of Registry Supervision Division of Ministry of Justice. Colleagues in other divisions look down on the Division saying nobody cares about their job and it's unneeded. But what they don't know is that the Division's true duty is to accomplish the top-secret mission from Parliamentary Secretary of Justice to "isolate time travelers in a special residential district and keep them under a close watch." In the near future, it's expected that time machine will be invented and there will be time travelers, each with their own purpose, coming back from the future to the present time. Registry Supervision Division was newly established in order to not let these time travelers change or affect the present and also to prevent big confusion from happening when the existence of time travelers gets revealed.

In the dawn of the Meiji period, the Gokumonjou, an inescapable prison, has been established in the middle of an enormous lake to counter the soaring crime rates the new era has brought. Serving as the ferrymen are the famous Kumou brothers: the eccentric family head, Tenka; the reckless but noble second son, Soramaru; and the guileless youngest, Chuutarou. In spite of their grim work, the three lead relatively peaceful lives in the ever-cloudy town of Oumi, together with their housekeeper, Shirasu Kinjou. But buried in the long history of Oumi is the legend of the terrifying "Orochi," a serpentine beast that awakens every three hundred years in a human vessel. Unbeknownst to Soramaru and Chuutarou, the actual job of the Kumou family is to seal the Orochi away before it fully revives—or the world will be plunged into destruction. Amid the monster's next resurrection, the Kumou family must find the resolve to keep laughing under the clouds.

Yusuke (Kirato Wakayama) is in the 6th grade of elementary school. He has lived in the city all of his life and his father Keita (Kazuya Takahashi) recommends to Yusuke that spend his winter vacation at his grandparents' home. His grandparents live in a mountain village. There, Yusuke has a hard time adapting to the area, customs and the people. He longs to go back home. Soon, Yusuke learns the true meaning of the pre meal phrase "Itadaki-masu" ("thank you for the meal").
