Paavo and Eeva, two young people who have moved from the countryside to the city, meet a gang led by Kalle, who spend their time loitering and committing petty crimes. A fateful evening on a motorboat irrevocably changes the young people's lives.

Mauno, an orphan boy, moves from the countryside to Tampere to live with his foster parents, Iida and Eero, who support him in his music studies. As an adult, Mauno travels to Helsinki to search for Helena, a Karelian girl he rescued during the war, who is studying violin. At first, the girl does not recognize Mauno, but a joint concert changes the situation.

Sammeli from Näljängä and Einari from Haataja, who were hunting bears, encounter Natalia, a cow that has crossed the eastern border. In the name of friendship between neighboring countries, Natalia is asked to return to the Soviet Union.
