Biography
Ursula Reuter Christiansen is a German-Danish artist whose work oscillates between symbolism and mythology, desire and hatred, beauty and abysses. Throughout her practice, she incorporates various media, from painting, filmmaking and performance to ceramics and sculpture. Having studied literature in Marburg, DE, she later graduated from the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts in 1969, where she studied under Professor Joseph Beuys and became active in the emerging women’s movement, which was to have a strong influence on her oeuvre. From 1992 to 1996, Reuter Christiansen worked as a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, DE, and as the first female professor of painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1997 to 2006. She is considered one of Denmark’s most influential artists in the post-war period, whose works are widely represented across Denmark – in art institutions, as well as public commissions, and is one of the founding members of Kunsthal 44Møn.
Known For
The painter Else Kant is in crisis – both artistically and personally. She is dissatisfied with her work and suffers from severe hallucinations and suicidal thoughts. She therefore voluntarily admits herself to a psychiatric ward, where the renowned Professor Cornelius reigns with great authority.

The Search is the ultimate happening film created by a group of ABCinema members during a camp on the Juttish heath. The film consists of loosely composed sequences. The landscape is the setting for a series of peculiar occurrences in which individual members were free to realize personal ideas, fantasies and themes: a man runs across the heath, shouting, a Molotov cocktail flares on a beach, a man repeatedly falls over, an angel-like woman makes a solitary procession, a burning pine, a man breaking a tree with a shovel, etc.
The Search

Starring Reuter Christiansen herself and shot in the lush landscape of Møn, the Danish island where she has lived since 1970, THE EXECUTIONER uses a fragmented narrative to tell “a story of woman’s degradation and exaltation,” as its subtitle indicates. A landmark of Danish feminist art, the film was also Reuter Christiansen’s first major collaboration with Henning, who composed the film’s lyrical, subtly experimental music.

Three women are isolated in a bedroom. A little pig is first loved as a pet, but is later castrated. Symbolizing the wretched man. Out in the dark, a dangerous man, Dracula, is a constant threat.

Fargo. Slump I film

With the relationship between mother and daughter as a common theme, the film is divided into 9 image rooms with action patterns that are based on archetypal images and motifs. The film is unconventional in its choice of means of action. Ursula Reuter Christiansen, who is a painter, tells her adventurous stories with an emphasis on the visual element, which works in interaction with Henning Christiansen's original soundtrack. (DFI)
