Biography
Sandy Ding is an experimental filmmaker from Beijing, China. He graduated from California Institute of the Arts Film and Video MFA in 2007, and now teaching in China Central Academy of Fine Arts. His films are distributed by Canyon Cinema and LIGHT CONE (France). Most of his films are focused on mysteries and the subconscious, using film material and digital techniques to escalate the screen. He also work on sound and experimental music. His work has been shown in festivals and private screenings inside and outside China.

Water Spell
A series of shots in a California desert landscape in which there is a play between on frame and off frame, sound and image. There is an effort to create the space of a story, without a story, by the use of real time/diegetic sound. Love is felt as a force that determines the arrangement of the figures in the landscape.

The Death Valley Is Good

To summon the third eye awakening, we should not agitate the surface of the mind and physical eye, but soothe and provoke the third eye to awaken. In the gap of time, the flame of images that rise and become eternity is forming the rhythm and the speech. The teachings received in my travels and in green crystals. In distanced mysteries, the half rotten emulsion is the art of metaphysical connection and path of the awakening.

This film concentrated the crystal energy of earth nature, expended the trace and texture of mote. It try to use powerful flicker image to tune up the electro magnetic field in human brain, activate the imagination of receivers, and pass on the information on earth.

A deep colorful abstract film about marginal light leaking through fragment of transparent structures. Within and outside the time temple, stare at mysteries in the depth of details and trapped lights, the observers went into a profound sub consciousness place, in which, the goddess, the temple and the stairs are haunted images, yet vivid in the deep black cosmos.

Salt Lake

A dark subtle poetry about return to nothingness and death written on 16mm color reversal film. The film tries to bring out a environment that deposits at the bottom of everyone’s life. The title of the film means the “cradle” in Croatian language. It is the same peace in the cradle and the grave.
The Cradle

The "River" is symbolized emotion and the "Castle" is symbolized crisis, distinction and liberation. When the film liberates its original contact by physically weaving it and printing through dense chemistry, the malted lights speaks this transformation.
