Based on the account by Vasiliy Koroteev this is the story of Panifilov's Twenty-Eight, a group of twenty-eight Red Army soldiers commanded by General Ivan Panfilov, that stopped the advance on Moscow of a column of fifty-four Nazi tanks of the 11th Panzer Division for several days. Though lightly armed they fight tirelessly and defiantly, with uncommon bravery and unwavering dedication, to protect Moscow and their Motherland.

The year is 1983. Yulia Morozova studies foreign languages at Leningrad University, plays sports and does not even imagine that in the very near future she will have to work in the KGB. She looks very much like the deceased wife of American spy Jim Wheeler, who arrives in Leningrad to meet with an agent working at a secret research institute. One day, an unusual patient arrives at the first city hospital. He is not like other ordinary patients as he is obsessed with a desire to commit suicide. It is quite easy to understand: his life is terrible, he has debts, mother-in-law, his wife is no angel, work, etc. In general, he is pushed to the limit, or rather, to hanging himself. And even in despair as he is, he fails in attempts to part this life. He tries to take pills, but they are not poisonous, then the floor is not high enough, then the chandelier falls down. In the last attempt, Pavel Surkov gets to the hospital to a surgeon, who puts him in a separate ward. In the morning, a woman appears at his bedside, while he is drugged with Phenazepam.

We know examples when only the strength of the spirit, backed by hope, helped people to survive in the most difficult conditions and resist cold, hunger and death itself.
