After Emiliano dies from poisoning, a vault in Zürich opens to reveal a video tape of edited fragments from surveillance cameras that captured the most important day in Emiliano's life. That day he learned that what matters most in life are not beginnings or endings, what matters most is one defining moment: his peculiar encounter with Juan when he recruited him to assassinate a former presidencial candidate.

Yuli (38) is the Topila (auxiliary police) of San Pablo Begu', a mountain community in Oaxaca where the inhabitants assume the responsibilities of self-government on a rotating basis on an honorary basis (Comunalidad) at the same time as they carry out their work and personal activities. At the entrance to the town, they hold back a group of machinery that is trying to move into the community to begin construction of a four-lane highway. No one in authority is aware of this and the community is on alert. San Pablo Begú will have to decide whether or not to accept the road project.

El Remolino is a tiny community on the banks of the widest river in Mexico, it is home to unusual characters whose lives oscillate between an attachment to the paradise like surroundings and the uncertainty that looms year after year, when high floods cover their community. El Remolino is a reflection upon the human capacity to adapt and coexist with nature's changes.
