A family that does not conform to the social norms of a small village must suffer the intolerance of the other villagers when the mentally-challenged son falls in love with the schoolteacher.

Distraught, Catherine wanders the Canadian countryside and takes refuge in an isolated villa. She talks to David, the owner, about her past: drugs, psychiatric hospital, murder of a nurse. Her friends show up and throw a party, which gets out of hand.
