In the south of contemporary Italy, a community devotes itself to divinatory practices dating back to Roman antiquity, such as ornithomancy and the interpretation of celestial phenomena. In the midst of these tormented lands, a series of gestures and attitudes emerge, opening up new horizons.

The title of Gústav Geir Bollason’s first essay in feature-length filmmaking is bewitchingly matter of fact: Mannvirki means structure or building – it’s composed of two parts, where the first means person, and the second fortress. And this is exactly what Mannvirki is about. It shows people in a once-sturdy, now derelict building that could have been anything from a scientific research station to some army structure.

I Had Nowhere To Go is based on Jonas Mekas’s diary. It’s been over 70 years since he left his village in Lithuania to escape Nazi persecution. He was 22 years old. Today he is one of the last surviving members of a displaced generation and one of the greatest documenters of the human experience.

May is raised by her grandparents in the German province. On a hot summer day May's interest in the Polish boy Piotr is sparked by boredom. May faces him provocatively, which leads on to a short moment of tenderness but ends in betrayal.

On a deserted peninsula, a group lives amidst relics from contemporary society. Part of a plane serves as a sheep shed, a car inner tube as futuristic Tupperware. Is this a parallel world or are we in the near future?
