The story begins in a small town in rural Mexico, home to Maria López—a humble, dreamy young woman of indigenous descent—who decides to leave her village for Mexico City in search of work and a better life. Upon arriving in the capital, she begins working as a domestic helper in mansions across wealthy neighborhoods, using her earnings to pay for sewing classes. At one of these homes, she meets Juan Carlos del Villar, a playboy who seduces and wins her over.
A humble seamstress named MarĂa Ramos, who, based on tenacity and a lot of drive, gets ahead with a son on her back, the result of her relationship with the handsome and rich Roberto Caride, son of the owners of the house where MarĂa worked as a servant.
MarĂa Ramos, a young woman of peasant origin, arrives in the capital and finds work as a domestic servant. Her life is divided by the attraction she feels for two men: the young man in the house where she works, who soon seduces and deceives her, and the teacher who teaches her to read and write. She soon becomes a seamstress in the neighborhood and later a sought-after designer. Her love for the teacher becomes clear.
