Edmundo Aray

Dead Well (Pozo muerto, 1967) is a Venezuelan documentary directed by Carlos Rebolledo and produced by the avant-garde collective El Techo de la Ballena. Through a series of testimonies from residents of the oil towns of Cabimas and Lagunillas, the film recounts the human cost of Venezuela’s oil industry. Tracing the country's petroleum history from the 1922 Barroso II oil well blowout to the late 1960s, it exposes the exploitation, poverty, and environmental devastation endured by communities along the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo. Filmed in black-and-white on 35mm, the documentary is regarded as a landmark work of the New Latin American Cinema.

In Simón Bolívar, ese soy yo, Venezuelan filmmaker Edmundo Aray begins his cinematic cycle devoted to Latin America’s independence heroes with a poetic and symbolic animated film that reimagines the life and myth of Simón Bolívar.

Documentary that celebrates 100 years of cinema in Latin America and talks about the origins and the development of cinema in this subcontinent. Its structure is based in 12 short films directed by various Latin American directors. Alfredo Alvarado is a famous dancer and criminal from Venezuela. His horrifying adventures are narrated through a television program. It exposes the contradictions of that context. It is based on the book Los cuentos de Alfredo Alvarado “El Rey del Joropo", by Edmundo Aray.
