Irene is an ordinary married woman living in Amiens, in the North of France. She works in a bank where, one day, she finds herself duty-bound to strip a client of her credit card and check book for ten years. Later on, while walking in a park Irene notices a mysterious homeless woman wearing a yellow coat. At a time she witnesses her shoplifting in a store. One night, on her way back home, she is attacked by the mysterious woman.

7 young women from Eastern Europe accept to become prostitutes for a year in exchange for a journey that will take them from Belgrade to Marseilles and provide them with a French passport. Irina, a worker from a Moscow suburb, brings along Enki, her young son, hidden among her luggage. She's ready to do anything to give him a brighter future.

A steelworker leaves Lorraine with his family for Finland, his wife's country. On the way, they meet two zonards, one of whom falls in love with the proletarian's daughter. The other, his brother protector, a sort of philosophic brute, does not accept to abandon him.
