This powerful footage documents the atmosphere surrounding the city in the hours and days after the attacks, including the rescue workers scrambling to save lives and the average citizens struggling to make sense of the day's horrific events.

In 2012, Chicago averaged 42 homicides per month with nearly 70% of deaths caused by guns.
