Norman Charles 'N.C.' Hunter (18 September 1908 – 19 April 1971) was a British playwright whose plays attracted such notable performers as John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Sybil Thorndike, Ralph Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael Redgrave, and Ingrid Bergman.

Thursday Theatre is a UK television anthology series produced by and airing on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from 1964–1965. There were twenty-three episodes which included adaptations of the play, The Cocktail Party, by T. S. Eliot, and the novel, The Wings of the Dove, by Henry James. The productions ranged in duration from 75 to 95 minutes. Out of the twenty-three episodes, thirteen are believed to be lost, and one episode is incomplete.

A PICTURE OF AUTUMN, by N.C. Hunter, is a sensitive, intelligent and comic depiction of one family’s attempt to grow old gracefully. AUTUMN tells the story of Charles and Margaret Denham, living in disarray in the decaying ancestral home with ancient Uncle Harry and senile Nanny. Their son Robert returns to England after several years abroad and finds that both the house and its occupants have faded from past glory. When an opportunity to sell the burdensome property arises, Robert leaps at the chance to help his parents downsize.
