Set in turn of the century Helsinki, author Arvo Helavalla's novel makes an indelible impression on adolescent Auli Ranta. She idolizes the author of a work that can never be forgotten.

The film starts at the countryside, where station master Viirimäki is spending his summer holiday. He has gotten into the holiday mood to the extent that he wakes up from his stupor at the very moment he should already be getting back to work. Unfortunately the last ship from the island where he has been vacationing has already sailed, but as luck would have it, local residents Himanen and Kehkonen promise to help him out. Things turn out differently, however, and the attempt to help starts out an adventure filled with misunderstandings and plot twists.

Set in 19th century country side and a small town. Leni and later her daughter Hanni living in Pimeänpirtti croft are seduced by Otto von Holten, the Patron of Kankaanpää Estate.

At the same time, Tuula is starting to get closer to Mirri's fiancé Ragnar who has begun to doubt Mirri's love and loyalty.

Wager is Count Mauritz Armborg, the young master of the estate. Linnanheimo plays Katariina (Catherine) the nanny to Mauritz's nieces and nephews. The two fall in love and decide to escape to Italy via Denmark where they have planned to get married. There are always complications because Mauritz's grandmother doesn't want him to marry below him - she has decided that Mauritz is to marry the Swedish beauty, Ingeborg Liliecrona.

Adalbert "Mussu" Koikkalainen inherits 9,000 marks from his uncle. To buy a milk shop, Koikkalainen needs another thousand marks and work experience, so he applies for a job at the department store Sampo, where he is hired as a scapegoat to receive customer complaints. The saleswoman Irja Salo, who is under threat of dismissal, falls in love with the general manager Vaara, whom she thinks is a traveling salesman.

Olli, a schoolboy from the Suominen family, accidentally causes two accidents, which he does not dare to confess to his father Väinö. He runs away from home in Helsinki and tries to get to the Savijärvi clearing camp with his friend Jaska. The journey, which began joyfully, turns into a nightmare when the boys, who have run into trouble, have to flee from the law and Olli's lively little sister Pipsa.

A new steward, agronomist Paul, arrives at the Siltala estate. The self-assured steward causes tension among the gentry, especially among the estate's owner, Captain Lilli's widow. The flamboyant Lieutenant Hugo courts the owner of Siltala, but Lilli and Paul find common ground.

Aarne marries Martta because his mother tells him it is his duty as the eldest son to marry a wealthy girl. However, the attractive school teacher Ilona arrives in the village and causes complications when Aarne falls in love with her.

At the request of author Zacharias, Fredrik begins composing an opera, inspired by a summer walk in Backas, Espoo. He falls in love with Ebba, who sings like a nightingale about a young mermaid on the shore of the lake. Fredrik's infatuation causes a scandal in Helsinki society circles, as he is married.

The Little Saleswoman (1933) is a musical short comedy directed by Georg Malmstén, commissioned by Havin Osakeyhtiö and advertising the company's products. Laundry day is coming up for the Keinänen family. Kalle (Kaarlo Angerkoski), a music student living as a subtenant in the family, stops by the herbalist's shop and falls head over heels in love with the beautiful saleswoman (Martta Kontula). Only a 17-minute excerpt of the film has survived.

Unbeknownst to each other, engineer Arvi hires Helvi, a music student, and Martti, a master's degree holder, hires Aili, also a master's degree holder. When journalist Salomon hires Manta as a maid, chaos ensues.

Set in Southern Finland between 1912 and 1936. Due to his father's drunkenness, high school student Jussi Raala has lost his inheritance, the manor house and the sawmill, to the gunman Lumia. Bitter and vengeful, Jussi decides to get the property back.

Bohemian painter Lasse receives a million-dollar inheritance from his aunt who has moved to Australia, on condition that he finds a permanent job, a spouse, and an heir within a week. To top it all off, Lasse must find the will, which unfortunately disappears inside a framed movie star poster belonging to his roommate Jop.
