In Louis Malle's lauded drama, Lucien Lacombe is a young man living in rural France during World War II who seeks to join the French Resistance. When he is rejected due to his youth, the resentful Lucien allies himself with the Nazis and joins the Gallic arm of their Gestapo. Lucien grows to enjoy the power that comes with his position, but his life is complicated when he falls for France Horn, a beautiful young Jewish woman.

To his family, François Voisin is nothing more than a humdrum civil servant. In truth, for the past twenty years he has been working as a secret agent. All goes well until circumstances put his secret in danger.

Six vignettes set in different sections of Paris, by six directors. St. Germain des Pres (Douchet), Gare du Nord (Rouch), Rue St. Denis (Pollet), and Montparnasse et Levallois (Godard) are stories of love, flirtation and prostitution; Place d'Etoile (Rohmer) concerns a haberdasher and his umbrella; and La Muette (Chabrol), a bourgeois family and earplugs.

A troubled marriage is tested by the couple's involvement in a theatrical production of Racine’s Andromaque.

François Perrin is a journalist who reads the news on RTL radio. Alone in life, his only "amusement" is his neighbor from Africa, who makes mildly fun of him from time to time. Festival panafricain d'Alger is a documentary by William Klein of the music and dance festival held 40 years ago in the streets and in venues all across Algiers. Klein follows the preparations, the rehearsals, the concerts… He blends images of interviews made to writers and advocates of the freedom movements with stock images, thus allowing him to touch on such matters as colonialism, neocolonialism, colonial exploitation, the struggles and battles of the revolutionary movements for Independence.

Having escaped from prison Ristack contacts his partner, to organize an attack on a van full of gold. The heist goes well but each man is trying to keep all the loot for himself...

François, a journalist, is approached on the train home by pretty a blonde. She leaves at the same station as him and follows him until he ends up inviting her to his house.

Mercadet, a young man, and Morin, a forty-something, meet in a brothel in India. They team up to continue their journey together. Along the way, they will meet various people.

"The State of happiness... permanent" presents itself as an extremely composed cine-photo-novel, based on the life of the filmmaker. It is, very exactly, images and sounds extracted from his personal story (curiously mixed with History itself). Not a plan that is not a piece of flesh, a piece of memory, a piece of life. Not a plan that does not fit into the raw experience of Maria Koleva. From this film, I want to highlight two very beautiful sequences: the one where she writes an essay with her cameraman on the back of a man sleeping in his bed, the one where she wonders, based on a photo where we see her as a little girl with her family during some party (in which his father seems to have played an important role), on the hat worn that day by his mother.

But John, alias Patrick, never wanted to think alone. The spectator accompanies him in his comic justifications. A sexual nurse and an Irish killer who came to execute him for serious misconduct visit him. He gets attached to the killer. In an incredible violence is born a rare thing, friendship... John is immersed in music from the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices. Patrick-John, the music, the beautiful heaps and the cathedral factories of the North collide in an invigorating self-laughter and a liberation of speech.
