Polizeiruf 110 is a long-running German language detective television series. The first episode was broadcast 27 June 1971 in the German Democratic Republic, and after the dissolution of Fernsehen der DDR the series was picked up by ARD. It was originally created as a counterpart to the West German series Tatort, and quickly became a public favorite.

A disruption on the Berlin S-Bahn: passengers have an involuntary one-hour layover at Frankfurter Allee S-Bahn station and use the time to take a closer look at their fellow passengers. Alice Räppel, a native Berliner with a heart and a snout, meets Egon Ziesemaus, who is usually plagued by bad luck. Klaus Fiedler, who wants to leave his family, gets to know the actress Inge, and other passengers also quickly make friends.

Peter, medical student and son of old materials dealer Richard Müller, wants to get engaged to the daughter of the director of a local construction company. Some unusually intense meteorological event causes a family to suddenly swap roles. That means that the children are in charge and the adults must obey. Coincidentally, mother’s new admirer, Mr. Droehmbüdel, proposes marriage but when he enters their apartment, he is very surprised by the strange family relationships. With determination her son (Tom) tries to chase him away against constant pleas from his mother and grandmother. But Mr. Droehmbüdel does not give up and is constantly inventing new ways to gain access to his future home.

Mira is a young, bigoted, rich and greedy auntie who makes the people around her dance to her tune. And if she ever suffers the minor ailments of old age, it is Doctor Falk, the husband of her niece Suschen, who cures her ailments. In the face of Mira's wealth, the dear relatives outdo each other in courting her aunt's favor, begrudgingly lying in wait for each other. But their greedy hopes are dashed one day when the old maid believes she has been impregnated by a guest of the Napoleonic army.
