Yana is a teacher. Her courage intrigued the German nobleman von Cheeter. Yana receives an order from the Soviet intelligence service to go to Berlin. There she finds herself in a society that shocks her with its arrogance, cynicism and nationalistic prejudices. After giving valuable information, the Gestapo seizes her. Yana is tortured but will not betray her friends.

The chief of the prison, the Major, has a mandolin collection. He offers a fistfight to the young communist. The young man hits him. The Major and the young communist start playing the mandolins together. Girl is allowed to meet the young communist. The boy begins to play. The melody brings to the Major pleasant memories. He fought in the Spanish civil war, but after the defeat, he turned back on his beliefs. The Major receives a telegram that he needs to send the young communist to another prison. Death awaits him there. In is rage the Major breaks the mandolins. He orders the young communist to be taken out to work. The young man runs off. The Major shoots him himself.
The Mandolin

XVII century, Bulgaria is under Ottoman rule. Four men break into the house of the shepherd Karaivan, raping and killing his wife in full view of their child, Maria. To protect his daughter and to enact revenge, he raises Maria as a son, teaching her to fight and kill. But as Maria grows up, she longs for a different life.
The Goat Horn

The students Yoshkata and Petar share rooms and wartime privations in a poor man's street. Over a glass of vine, Yoshkata often talks about the stage life of genuine beauty. The student is unaware of the passion with which Vaska, the barmaid at the local pub, burns for him. Petar is a member of an antifascist combat unit. The pupil Katya loves him. Petar carries out a sabotage action and comes home wounded. Yoshkata manages to deceive the Germans who rush into their flat that they have been drinking and playing cards throughout the evening. He saves his friend. However, the secret agent notices the doctor's visits. When the police arrive to arrest Petar, Yoshkata tries to resist them and the agent shoots him dead. Petar goes underground. On the day of the liberation, all the residents of the poor man's street celebrate, and Katya and Petar happily reunited. Vaska is there, too, a baby in her arms, the fruit of her love with Yoshkata...

Kmete, kmete

Margaritka (Daisy) is sick during the school year. Her dad is a writer and her mom is an actress who is rehearsing her lines for a new premiere. She is having an affair with the director of the production. At the premiere of "Mommy," Daddy sees her and the director kissing. Papa and Margaritka leave without waiting for Mommy. At home, a scandal is inevitable, but it does not solve anything yet. Mama leaves on tour, and Margaritka and Papa go to the village. There she makes friends with the village children and forgets about her incessant coughing and sneezing. Soon she begins to miss her mom and asks her dad to call her. He writes a telegram but does not send it. The child finds a crumpled piece of paper and goes to the post office. Mom arrives and all three are reunited.
Margaritka
1930s, Dobrudja. The shepherds Vasil, Peter and Ago work in the farm of Zachariah and Sevastitsa. Vasil is the manager of the sheepfold. In his house lives the young and beautiful Vasilena, for whom everyone sighs.
