In the center of the plot is a senior investigator named Masha Shvetsova and her male colleagues. The plot is the most vital, but, like in “Streets of Broken Lanterns,” it is seasoned with a fair amount of humor - otherwise, how can the audience (and the heroes) endure countless morgues, identifications and other “cute” charms of the investigative routine?

Valentina, Anastasia, Polina and Rita are women from four different generations. Each of them solves their life problems in their own way, seeks love, builds a career, struggles with disappointments and learns to be happy despite the difficulties they have to overcome. They are united by friendship, work and problems that are close to any woman.

This detective story begins with an article in Ogonyok magazine about Soviet naval officers who were awarded the highest British award, the Order of the Star of the Sea, during World War II. After reading the article, the young heroine of the film named Olga, a resident of a small seaside town, realizes that one of these orders is kept on the mezzanine of her modest apartment, in a shoe box.

Aboard a ship early in the 20th-century, a middle-aged Italian tells his story of love to a Russian.

The film is about a generation of brave and beautiful people who did not see the destruction of the revolution and the chaos of the civil war, who dreamed of building a new life in which there would be no place for death, but only incredible love that opens the way for them to great achievements and discoveries. The film takes place on the day of the end of the Olympic Games, August 3, 1980. On the eve and during the Olympics, the Moscow authorities are "trapping" and expelling antisocial elements beyond the 101st kilometer. The avant-garde artist Boris falls into this category, he is taken to the police, from where he manages to escape.
